Sandia National Laboratory announced a new breakthrough that could aid an industry New Mexico has been pursuing in recent years.

The breakthrough from researchers could aid the efficiency of quantum computing and traditional microelectronics.

In this case, a team from Sandia, the University of Arkansas and Dartmouth College improved the flow of electrical current though a semiconductor device called a quantum well. This specialized device is used to improve the speed and efficiency of telecommunications devices and researchers are now looking at how it can be used to improve quantum computing.
